Our Services

Morningside Windows provides a comprehensive restoration service for your sash & case windows which coveres each of the services described below. As part of our commitment to traditional methods and affordable renovation we retain the original timber of your sashes and cases wherever possible.

Sash & Case Renovation

The key to our service is renovation of the sash and case itself. For each window in your home we remove the sashes from the case, sand down all external faces, fill any holes and cracks and screw the sash joints to strengthen them. Then we prime the windows so that they are ready for painting. To help your restored sashes work more smoothly we strip and prime the inside of the cases as well. Loose putty is removed and replaced.  Where necessary cills, case repairs and bottom rails will also be replaced.

New ironmongery

As part of the renovation process we’ll fit new, traditional-style brass locks and easy clean fittings to all your windows. If you prefer we can fit chrome finished ironmongery instead, or source alternative fittings.

Draught Proofing

Your sashes will be routered to accept ready-seal draught proofing strips, which comprise two sets of polypropylene brushes and a central draught excluder. New parting beads and batton rods are also added to further seal your windows against draughts and to eliminate rattling. Our system of draught proofing also provides quite a bit of sound proofing, and reduces the amount of dust that enters your home.

Re-pointing

Existing pointing will be removed and replaced with traditional Febmast (a combination of linseed oil and burnt sand).

Glazing Repairs

We can also replace any damaged glazing, either with standard or obscured glass (safety glass, decorative glass, etc.).

Painting

All windows will receive one coat of white exterior undercoat and one coat of white gloss.
